| "This guy calls up, " Frazetta relates, " and tells my wife on the phone that it's Clint Eastwood. I said, 'yeah, Clint Eastwood, big joke.' So she hung up on him. He calls back and sure enough it was Clint Eastwood. So I apologized and he laughed. He told me about the movie he was doing , how he saw my work, and wanted to come out and see me. when he came out we talked about The Gauntlet and he had some very specific ideas about what he should look like on this poster and he made comparisons with a specific panting. He picked out one that he called his favorite and said, ' I want to look like that.' It was 'Dark Kingdom.' So I laughed and said, 'You've, got to be kidding!' ' Not that I want to look like that, but I want that look. I want your look.' I mean, I've been handed some challenges in my time, but jeez- this movie was a contemporary action film. " Frank provided Eastwood with a variety of watercolor roughs to choose from and the final poster is similar in tone and composition to the Kane painting. |
